KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Pos Malaysia is now charging a postage stamp of 50 sen for every season's greeting card weighing less than 50gm meant for local destinations.
Its PosMel Support Operation chief Zaidi Hussain said the special rate was introduced on Aug 1 in conjunction with the upcoming Aidilfitri and was 30 sen lower than the 80 sen imposed last year.
The rate would take effect until Feb 28 next year, covering the Deepavali, Christmas and Chinese New Year celebrations, he told a news conference here today.
He hoped the lower postage rate would rekindle the tradition of sending greeting cards among the people, instead of exchanging the virtual ones over the Internet or text messages.
Zaidi said, however, the cost for sending the card to an international destination would be determined by the normal tariff.
He said Pos Malaysia also anticipated the number of Hari Raya sent this year to increase to seven million from 6.84 million last year.
The deadline to send Hari Raya card is on Sept 6.
