KUALA LUMPUR: Share prices on Bursa Malaysia ended the week on a firmer note, boosted by buying interest from investors, although the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) closed in red, dealers said.
At 5pm, the key index eased 0.75 points to 1,565.06 after opening 0.77 of a point better at 1,566.58, pressured by losses in selected heavyweights.
Throughout the day, it moved between 1,562.63 and 1,566.58.
Tenaga Nasional shed 25 sen to RM6.27, Petronas Dagangan eased 24 sen to RM17.84 and United Plantations slipped 40 sen toRM20.
A dealer said the market barometer remained in negative territory for the day weighed by easing selected heavyweight stocks and concerns of inflation.
The Finance Index rose 23.63 points to 14,811.13, the Plantation Index decreased 0.13 points to 7,698.11 and the Industrial Index gained 5.77 points to 2,867.9.
The FBM Emas Index inched up 22.319 points to 10,766.43, the FBM 70 Index surged 103.58 points to 11,828.6 and the FBM Ace Index rose 13.58 points to 4,170.11.
The market breadth was positive with gainers outnumbering losers by 462 to 249, while 332 counters were unchanged, 452 untraded and 27 others suspended.
Trading volume decreased to 1.166 billion shares, worth RM1.993 billion compared to 1.2 billion shares, worth RM2.6 billion, transacted Thursday.
On the Main Market, volume was lower at 711.469 million shares valued at RM1.925 billion versus Thursday’s 874.52 million shares, worth RM2.58 billion.
Warrants turnover also improved to 130.109 million units, valued atRM20.656 million from 103.87 million shares valued at RM18.21 million previously.
Turnover on the ACE market rose to 322.553 million units worthRM46.021 million from Thursday’s 218.41 million shares valued atRM30.38 million.
Actives were led by Ingenuity Solutions-WA, up four sen to 4.5 sen, Ingenuity Solutions eased two sen to 8.5 sen, Bumi Armada gained three sen to RM4.17 and Jotech Holdings went up half-a-sen to 15 sen.
Newly-listed Catcha Media rose six sen to 81 sen.
Of the heavyweights, Maybank was one sen lower at RM8.83, CIMBflat at RM8.53, Petronas Chemicals fell five sen to RM7.04 and Sime Darby gained four sen to RM9.20.
Consumer products accounted for 38.923 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products 154.545 million, construction 32.153 million, trade and services 282.803 million, technology 14.035 million, infrastructure 4.700 million, finance 81.892 million, hotels 589,800 million, properties 83.400 million, plantations 14.651 million, mining 2,000, REITs 3.713 million and closed/fund 58,500.
