Invitations for the wedding ceremony at Westminster Abbey were sent out by first class Royal Mail in sealed pale brown envelopes to a mix of Commonwealth politicians, foreign royalty, family, friends and celebrities. They include:
> 40 members of foreign royalty (among them the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah).
> More than 200 members of the British Government, Parliament and diplomatic corps.
> 80 guests from the charities and organisations under William’s patronage.
> Kate’s hometown butcher, mailman, grocer and her favourite pub owner.
> Four of William’s and two of Kate’s ex-partners.
> The Venerable Bogoda Seelawimala, head priest of London’s Buddhist Vihara temple.
> Zimbabwean-born Chelsy Davy, on-off girlfriend of Prince Harry.
Clarence House (official residence of the Prince of Wales) insists that the wedding will not be a celebrity-studded affair but there are certainly several big names on the list:
> Football star David Beckham and pop star-fashion designer wife Victoria.
> Elton John and partner David Furnish.
> Comedian Rowan “Mr Bean” Atkinson.
> Film director Guy Ritchie.
> British singer Joss Stone.
> Australian Olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe.
> Peruvian-born photographer Mario Testino (who took the couple’s official engagement portraits, as seen on the stamps issued by Britain’s Royal Mail).
