KUALA LUMPUR: The female candidate in the Universiti Malaya campus elections, who was reported missing on Saturday, has returned to her parent's house in Sg Buloh.
Kuala Lumpur police chief DCP Zulkfli Abdullah said that Masturah Abu Bakar, 22, arrived home about 1.30am on Monday.
"The girl's family has not been cooperative thus far but we expect to record her statement soon.
"We are treating it as a missing persons case at the moment and not kidnapping, until we record her statement," he said.
Masturah, a pro-Mahasiswa (Pro-M) candidate in the campus elections, was said to have received a threatening text from an unknown person before she went missing.
DCP Zulkifli also advised candidates, who may have received similar threatening SMS, to lodge police reports so that investigations could be carried out.
"We cannot do anything if the affected parties don't lodge police reports and cooperate with us," he added.
Masturah was last seen campaigning with a friend at the Pantai Permai Apartment, Pantai Dalam, a student accommodation outside the campus at 5pm on Saturday.
She then left her friend at the apartment to buy a recharge card for her mobile phone.
Masturah had asked her friend to wait for her at Block E of the apartment. However, when she failed to return, the friend made a futile search for her for six hours with the aid of residents before lodging a police report.
